Mon Incline To Get Independent Review

Pittsburgh Regional Transit plans to commission an independent review of the Monongahela Incline due to several closures in the past year — including another one this week. PRT will also create a committee made up of community officials and local stakeholders, including representatives from businesses affected by the closures.

City Council Passes Housing Plan

Despite complaints, Pittsburgh City Council approved Mayor Ed Gainey’s plan to allocate $8 million in federal funds toward homelessness and affordable housing efforts. Council members say Gainey’s administration didn’t communicate with them about the plan, which doesn’t list the specific projects or entities who will receive the funds. It does, however, allocate $5.5 million for affordable rental housing, about $2 million for shelter and support services, and the rest for administration and planning.

Parking Tickets To Come in the Mail

City Council also passed a measure this week allowing the Pittsburgh Parking Authority to start issuing parking tickets through the mail as well as in person. This will make things more efficient for the agency, which has struggled with staffing since the start of the pandemic. [WTAE-TV]
