🥐 Food fests coming to Pittsburgh

March 1, 2024

Welcome to March, neighbor. The native redbud trees are starting to bloom along the river, and it’s giving me that Spring feeling! 🌸 If you want to celebrate the season, check out our guide to the month ahead, then scroll for food fests to put on your calendar 😋

What's CITY Talking About?

Bill Hillgrove Retires From the Steelers

Longtime play-by-play radio host Bill Hillgrove, 83, is the voice synonymous with Pittsburgh sports. And after 30 seasons with the Steelers, he announced his retirement. But he isn’t vanishing from Pittsburgh sports, Hillgrove will stick around the Pitt football booth for his 52nd season; right now, he’s in the middle of calling his 56th season of Pitt basketball games. Pgh’s Longest Running Monthly Arts Fest

It’s the first Friday of the month, and that means Penn Avenue in Bloomfield and Garfield will be bustling with food trucks, live music, and artists selling their creations for Unblurred. But did you know that this lively monthly event started with a 1998 initiative to remake a stretch of abandoned buildings? [NEXTpittsburgh]

Meet the Aviary’s New Condor

The National Aviary hopes its new male condor, Bud, can be a mate for resident female condor, Lianni. The Aviary is a part of the Species Survival Plan for Andean Condors, which means that offspring are often sent to South America for conservation efforts. Bud joins Lianni, her juvenile offspring Marijo, and his friend Illimani. [National Aviary]

Refillery To Open in Downtown

The Refillery, a “zero-waste” shop based in Squirrel Hill, is expanding to a new location at 100 7th Street. Stop by on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate with snacks, door prizes, tarot readings, and more. Don’t forget your containers to fill with personal and home care essentials! The Esplanade, PPG & More Animal Deaths in Pittsburgh

The proposed Esplanade development on the North Side has generated a lot of buzz, but what are its odds of actually Ferris wheeling above the Ohio? We’ve got good news and bad news about a bunch of Pittsburgh animals, and PPG Industries is considering a change. Plus, we have a winner on the PA River of the Year!

Have a great weekend!
