What's CITY Talking About?
North Shore To Get A Big Screen
City Council approved plans for a giant video screen in a plaza near PNC Park for fans to watch Pirates games. The 916-square-foot LED screen, which is expected to be up in 2025, will be set back six feet into a steel structure so folks can’t see it while driving on 279. [TribLIVE]
PRT Hopes To Reduce Bus Driver Shortage
Local 85 of the Amalgamated Transit Union reached an agreement with Pittsburgh Regional Transit to increase operator training, which could reduce the amount of trips canceled. Once daylight saving time begins, the agency will add eight new trainers and run two on-street training classes per day with hopes of training 250 new drivers by the end of year. Police Cut Overnight Shift
Under a new policy, the bureau’s six zone stations are now limiting staffed hours after 3 a.m. Chief Larry Scirotto said during a press conference that “calls between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. typically represented about 8% of each day’s call volume but were using up to 33% of the bureau’s personnel hours.” The police union says the decision was made because of staffing and retention issues. Violence Prevention Unit officers, narcotics and vice detectives, and K-9 units will supplement during those hours. If you’re at a station overnight and need help, there will be a phone outside to call 911. [TribLIVE]
