Monroeville Convention Center To Close

The 100,000-square-foot expo center, adjacent to the Monroeville Mall, will close this summer to make room for a Hobby Lobby. Locals aren’t too thrilled. The venue hosts the annual Steel City Con expo, along with other mid-sized festivals and events. [TribLIVE]

EPA Wants Stronger Testing for US Steel

Allegheny County needs to revise its air permit for U.S. Steel’s Edgar Thomson plant in Braddock to include stronger testing and monitoring requirements, the Environmental Protection Agency says. The permit spells out emission limitations that are in compliance with the Clean Air Act — but only for every two, four, or five years. The EPA wants more specific data to determine if the plant is complying with the law. [The Allegheny Front]
