What's CITY Talking About?
Medicaid’s Abortion Coverage To Be Reconsidered by PA Court
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is ordering that the 1982 Abortion Control Act be reargued in front of the state’s Commonwealth Court. Democratic attorney Adam Bonin tells SpotlighPA that a majority of justices agree that the law — prohibiting Medicaid from paying for an abortion except in cases of rape or incest — is unconstitutional, sex-based discrimination. This ruling will send the case back to the court, and “some believe the justices could use it to set a precedent as to whether the Pennsylvania Constitution guarantees the right to abortion.” [Spotlight PA]

Flood Advisory Along Mon Wharf
Keep a lookout for traffic restrictions along the Mon Wharf as a flood advisory is issued through Thursday. One person had to be rescued from flooding in the “bathtub” on Monday after several days of rain. The 10th Street Bypass closed between Interstate 279 Parkway North/Fort Duquesne Bridge and Fort Duquesne Boulevard. [TribLIVE / KDKA-TV]
A Volcano on the South Side?!
Spork Island Trading Co, a tiki-themed restaurant planned at the former Double Wide Grill in the South Side, hopes that business will boom with its design ideas — like a “tall wooden trellis, palm trees, thatch umbrellas, and, on the corner of East Carson and South 24th streets, a volcano.” But the city’s Historic Review Commission rejected the volcano, saying that it would look “nonsensically out of place.” [NEXTpittsburgh]
- 🤣 Reddit user monogahellyea says “it looks like someone used Rollercoaster Tycoon for the design.”
