What's CITY Talking About?

Millions More for Infrastructure Projects

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stopped in Pittsburgh on Friday to announce $142.3 million in funding for projects along Parkway East and eastern suburbs. The money will go toward stabilizing hillsides, bus lanes, traffic control measures, and relieving the chronic flooding beside the Monongahela Wharf known as “the bathtub.” [Pittsburgh Union Progress]

Pittsburgh’s Tiny Village Prototype

City Councilors Deb Gross and Anthony Coghill shared a prototype of an 8-by-10-foot structure that could become a model to help residents experiencing homelessness. The shelters would each have their own mailbox, plus a shared community space for showers, toilets, and food. The councilors want the city to pilot a 10-unit village, but the proposal needs approval from Mayor Ed Gainey and Allegheny County’s Department of Human Services. A lot has been written about similar models, like those in Texas. [90.5 WESA / Texas Standard]

Local Band To Play at Coachella

Pittsburgh will make its way to the annual Coachella music festival in Palm Springs, Calif. this April with performances by the local band feeble little horse. The group, formed by Pitt students in 2021, released their second album “Girl with Fish” last summer. [Pittsburgh Independent]
