Let it snow! But for how long 🤔
November 29, 2023
It’s Wednesday! Hope the week has been great so far and that you’re headed toward an even better end to the workweek. Let’s get into the stories you need to make that happen 🤓 ⤵️

What's CITY Talking About?

Will the Snow Flurries Last in Pgh?
Many of yinz woke up to a dusting of snow early this week. Folks in Armstrong County got a whole inch! Temperatures right now are hovering around last year’s averages, but snowfall is lagging. On average, the region should be seeing about 2 inches of snow by now, and last year saw about 3.3 inches. [TribLive]
Zoning Won’t Leave Neighborhoods in Limbo
City planners reassured City Council on Monday that prospective zoning changes will be to the benefit of city residents — and they promised to involve the public. Council's concerns stem from two high-profile housing developments that were denied this year because both required variances from the city's notoriously sticky zoning code. [90.5 WESA]

Colleges & Libraries Take a Hit from the PA Budget
State lawmakers still haven’t finalized Pennsylvania’s $45.5 billion budget plan, causing community colleges and library districts to miss payments, dip into reserves, or cut costs. Officials are back in session the second week of December. [Spotlight PA]
It’s the Period Party Challenge!
First, host a party and ask all your guests to bring menstrual products. Next, find somewhere to donate the products, and then post about it to your social media feeds. Sounds fun? Pittsburgher Tamara Abney conceptualized the challenge to encourage conversations about menstruation and menstrual equity and to help people access health care. Mapping What’s Left of Pittsburgh’s Past
Pittsburghers tend to be pretty nostalgic — we love giving directions based on what used to be somewhere — and our city is filled with these forgotten relics from the past. Local writer Virginia Montanez (aka Jane Pitt or Pitt Girl) decided to change that. We’re bringing back one of our favorites, where she shares her latest passion project — an interactive map called Pittsburgh Remains to Be Seen.
