Will Pittsburgh Change Its Zoning Laws?

Pittsburgh’s zoning codes make it difficult for new housing to be built, and two high-profile development proposals — the former Irish Centre in Squirrel Hill and ShurSave in Bloomfield — were rejected. The decisions for what can be built and where fall under the zoning board, but legislation to change any of the code’s provisions will ultimately be up to city council and the mayor’s office — and it's unlikely to change anytime soon. PA Budget Pending, What’s Shapiro Saying?

The Republican-controlled Pennsylvania Senate approved hundreds of millions of dollars for universities and schools last week, but five months into the fiscal year, there are still disagreements on some elements of the budget. [KDKA]

His next budget proposal, due in February, will include funds for public schools and a new education funding model, since Pennsylvania’s system was ruled unconstitutional.
