What's CITY Talking About?
Penguins Goals Plant Trees
The Pittsburgh Penguins face the New Jersey Devils at PPG Paints Arena at 7 p.m. — and that could mean that the black and gold makes Pittsburgh a little more green. Davey Tree Expert Company is partnering with Tree Pittsburgh and the Penguins to plant a tree in Allegheny County for each goal scored at home. Last season got us 142 Eastern red cedar trees. Pittsburgh Could Create A Space District
Astrobotic, the space company based on the North Side, plans to launch its Peregrine lunar lander on Christmas Eve — and it just got $4 million from the state to expand its footprint. The company plans to use the money to move some of its operations to a five-story building on Reedsdale Street, growing a potential “space district” near the Allegheny T station. [90.5 WESA]
- More North Side development news: Allegheny General Hospital got the green light for a large, 10-year development plan that will convert all hospital quarters to private rooms. [TribLIVE]

Pittsburgh Baker Returns to Food Network
Watch local baker Jasmine Cho in a confectionary competition on the “Christmas Cookie Challenge” at 9 p.m. tonight. You may remember Cho from when she won the same baking competition series in 2019; this time around, she’s returning with seven fellow past champions to compete for another $10,000 prize and title of “Best of the Best.” Cho, who operates the business Yummyholic, is known for uplifting stories of Asian American and Pacific Islanders through stunning cookie portraits. The local grocery chain is cutting its gas and grocery perks program in January 2024 and transitioning its members to the enhanced myPerks Loyalty Program — including existing rewards like free gas, 20% off groceries, and an “added choice of dollar rewards” on gas and groceries. [WPXI-TV]
