PA Lawmakers Consider Legalizing Recreational Marijuana
Over $4 billion in annual sales — that’s the revenue potential Pennsylvania could reach with adult-use consumption of recreational marijuana, according to experts. Local State Rep. Dan Frankel told a House subcommittee last week that Pennsylvania can take cues from other states that have legalized recreational marijuana to boost the economy. [TribLive]
Pitt Charges Pro-LGBTQ+ Protesters
The University of Pittsburgh pressed charges against at least three LGBTQ+ rights supporters and held conduct hearings for eight students the university says disrupted a public Board of Trustees meeting in September. Most of the charged protesters are members and supporters of Trans Action Building, an on-campus group. [PublicSource]
$120,000 County Settlement in Excessive Force Lawsuit
Three women with psychiatric disabilities settled a 2020 lawsuit with Allegheny County alleging they were brutally assaulted by a staff member while being held in Allegheny County Jail. The County settled the six-figure settlement last month but admitted no wrongdoing. [Pittsburgh City Paper]
