What's CITY Talking About?
5 Years Since the Synagogue Attack
Today marks five years since a white supremist attacked a synagogue in Squirrel Hill, killing 11 worshipers from three congregations — Tree of Life, New Light, and Dor Hadash. Pittsburghers are honoring their memories by calling for gun reform, gathering for a commemoration ceremony, and hosting volunteer opportunities:
- Today at 8, 9, and 10 a.m.: Study Torah with Jewish leaders.
- Today at 3 p.m.: Gather at a commemoration ceremony at Schenley Park. Students and musicians will play violins saved during the Holocaust.
- Sunday: Volunteer for blood drives, stone paintings, cemetery clean-ups, packing books for the Pittsburgh Prison Book Project, and baking at Family House. [90.5 WESA]
💛 It’s not an easy day for the community. Hear Maggie Feinstein, director of the 10.27 Healing Partnership, share ways to process heavy emotions and honor the memories of those we lost. [🎧City Cast Pittsburgh]
Could E-Scooters Make A Comeback?
Pittsburgh’s two-year SPIN pilot program ended in July, but the scooters could soon return. Despite a lawsuit filed against the city by people injured on rental scooters, the PA House of Representatives passed legislation that will force Pittsburgh to run another year-long pilot program starting Dec. 31. - 🛴 E-scooters can be a barrier for people with disabilities who rely on Pittsburgh’s sidewalks. Here’s what you should know about the pilot program. [🎧City Cast Pittsburgh]
