What's CITY Talking About?

Allegheny County Hits Peak Fall Color
Pennsylvania has a longer and more varied fall foliage season than anywhere else. The DCNR publishes a weekly map on Thursdays, showing which regions are approaching and in the midst of peak color. You may have to head south to chase those gorgeous reds, oranges, and golds after this week. [City Cast Pittsburgh; Department of Conservation and Natural Resources]
New Program Could Help People Who’ve Overdosed
Pittsburgh wants to launch a pilot program focused Downtown that sends support teams out alongside EMS to respond to overdose calls. The teams will include specialists and case managers ready to connect patients with recovery services once their immediate medical needs are met. The idea is to reach people who decline to go to the hospital after surviving an overdose. City Council is expected to vote on the $1 million pilot in the coming weeks. [TribLIVE]
Bhutanese Pittsburghers Import Community Alongside Cuisine
In the last 15 years, Route 51 has become the “Main Street” for about 7,000 refugees from Bhutan. Khara Timsina, executive director and co-founder of the Bhutanese Community Association of Pittsburgh, shares his personal story and how the growing group of Lhotshampa made their homes here. New Gas Line Rules Could Reduce Fire Risks
Federal regulators are now monitoring more than 400,000 miles of pipeline, which environmental advocates say is long overdue. Voluntary inspections from the first round of reports showed more than 5,000 leaks were found and fixed last year alone. More stringent rules will take effect soon. [PublicSource]

Where Is It?

Shout out to Alina C., Jamie K., Darlene M., Jessica B., Margaret S., John C., Rich O., Andy C., Stamatis M., and Laniya L., for correctly guessing last week’s photo challenge:

You can find everyone’s favorite scarecrow neighbor at Triple B. Farms in Monongahela, Washington County. It’s a fun day trip about 50 minutes south of the city. Don’t forget to stop for a glass at the boutique family winery, Ripepi Winery.
