What's CITY Talking About?

Miss The Last County Executive Debate?

Democrat Sara Innamorato and Republican Joe Rockey revisited top issues in the final broadcasted debate on Sunday: property assessments and taxes, mental health care, gun violence, and abortion rights. Read about where each candidate stands or watch the full debate.  [90.5 WESA / WPXI]

Pittsburghers Rally for Palenstine

Hundreds of people gathered at a peaceful, pro-Palestine rally organized by Pitt students on Friday. The rally was not pro-Hamas or pro-violence, but a call for Israel to halt its military campaign against Palestinians — a week after Hamas militants attacked Israel near the Gaza Strip. [TribLIVE]

  • Eliana Beigel, who has Jewish heritage, told Triblive: I just don’t know how anyone can look at this and not see that it is genocide. I don’t know how our community can have gone through what it went through, and then to turn around and do it to other people and still feel like they’re in the right. It just breaks my heart.”

Armstrong Tunnel, Stairs Closed

One lane of Forbes Avenue and the stairs from Second Avenue to the Boulevard of the Allies are closed for two months to rehab the Armstrong Tunnel. The right lane of Forbes Avenue will close Oct. 23. Work on the 97-year-old tunnel, which began in March, is expected to last two years. [Pittsburgh Union Progress]

PA Wants Your Feedback On Pollution

About 4 million Pennsylvanians live in environmental justice areas — places where poor or marginalized communities are harmed by resource extraction or environmental waste. Want to get familiar with the environmental justice areas in your region? Check out PennEnviroScreen, which bases its analysis on pollution burden and population characteristics. [StateImpact Pennsylvania]

  • The Department of Environmental protection wants your input at a meeting on Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m. at the North Side Institutional Banquet Hall.

Don’t get me wrong, fall cocktails are awesome, but sometimes you need a break from alcohol. The City Cast Pittsburgh team visited The Open Road in Allentown to talk to owner Mel Babitz about how this booze-free business is growing, the toughest alcoholic drinks to recreate, and how to pick your perfect NA adult beverage.
