What's CITY Talking About?
Pittsburgh Mills Is Still Here — For Now
On Monday, we reported that the Pittsburgh Mills Mall was going up for a sheriff’s sale because of $11.5 million in assessment bills. Namdar Realty Group ended up coughing up the money and averting the sale, but its future is still unclear. The mall lost a lot of its tenants, and the company hasn’t disclosed its plan for the 200-acre site. The company owns several other malls across the country that have fallen into disrepair. County Receives Funds to Prevent Overdose Deaths
A $14.5 million grant from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention will allow the county to continue and expand programs that improve access to overdose reversal drugs, help patients find care and treatment to reduce cravings and side effects, and provide support for people who leave incarceration or live on the street. New efforts will provide educational materials for grassroots organizations serving communities of color. [90.5 WESA]
Pittsburgh Disability Advocate Retires
After more than 40 years of disability rights activism, Nancy Murray is retiring as vice president of Achieva and president of the Achieva affiliate, The Arc of Greater Pittsburgh. Murray has been a strong advocate for closing state institutions for people with intellectual disabilities, more funding for people on waiting lists for disability services, and higher wages for people who care for those with disabilities.
