5 ways to enjoy fermented foods in Pittsburgh
September 1, 2023
Happy Friday, neighbor! Did you catch the Blue Moon this week? There were too many clouds for me to see it well (no surprise!), but photographer Dave DiCello captured it exquisitely.
Don’t forget: there won’t be a newsletter or podcast on Monday in observance of Labor Day. Get out there and honor Pittsburgh’s workers’ rights history.

What's CITY Talking About?
Legislation to Protect Homeowners
Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group reports that 24.8% of local home sales in 2021 involved wholesalers — who often use predatory techniques to target vulnerable people and undercut the home value. City Council introduced legislation this week that would require these wholesalers to get a license and renew it annually. It would also ask that they provide homeowners with information on how to find property values, real estate agents, and legal counsel. Public discussion will come before council votes on the bill. Mobile App To Pay for T Rides
Switching from the bus, T, and incline is about to get easier. A mobile payment option for light rail riders could be ready as soon as next week. Pittsburgh Regional Transit quietly introduced its mobile pay system, Ready2Ride, in 2021, but it didn’t publicize it much because it wasn’t available for the T. The new app will allow customers to link their credit card and instantly load money onto their account. [Pittsburgh Union Progress]
New Art for Carnegie Museum
Did you go to the 58th Carnegie International exhibition last year? The event, which dates back to 1896, brings contemporary global art to Pittsburgh, and we finally know what the Carnegie Museum of Art acquired from the exhibition. Check out the pieces here. [NEXTpittsburgh]

Public Bathrooms, Deer Problems & Janky Mascots
Many months after a study found we’re short on bathrooms downtown, city officials think they’ve finally found a solution — and they also want city residents to creatively take care of their deer problem. Plus, there’s a viral video floating around that asks a question Penn State fans should be very, very familiar with.
Have a great, long weekend!
