What's CITY Talking About?
Penguins Owner To Take Over AT&T SportsNet
Pens fans can sleep easy; they’ll still be able to watch their favorite team on TV this fall. Fenway Sports Group is planning to buy the cable channel AT&T SportsNet from Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. It’s likely that Fenway Sports will change the name of the channel and create a direct-to-consumer streaming service. [TribLIVE]

North Side & Homestead Bridge Projects
- The North Avenue Bridge at Brighton Road, which spans the Norfolk Southern rail line at a corner of Allegheny Commons Park, closed after an updated structural review. Norfolk Southern is finalizing designs for a replacement, and new construction is expected to begin in 2025. [TribLIVE]
- The Homestead Grays Bridge, which connects Route 837 with Browns Hill Road, will have periodic lane and sidewalk closures until sometime in September. [Pittsburgh Union Progress]
County Jail Is “Grossly Understaffed”
An audit of 2021-22 data by the county controller’s office found that Allegheny County Jail is “short-staffed by more than 100 corrections officers, and more than half of the facility’s budgeted health care positions are vacant.” Overuse of overtime and retention are both problems, but recruiting people to work at the jail has been especially challenging since the pandemic began. A project to reshape the jail is already in the works, but Warden Orlando Harper’s retirement in September and a new county executive office will likely bring more change. [90.5 WESA / PublicSource]
