You can’t say you’re from Pittsburgh until you’ve…
June 14, 2023
Good morning, neighbor. Did yinz hear about the petition to change the “Iron City Beer” sign — or as I like to call it, Pittsburgh’s Hollywood sign — to “Swift City Beer” for the superstar’s stop in the ‘Burgh this weekend? I hope I see some of yinz there!
🎧 We’ve got more on where to catch the best summer shows on today’s City Cast Pittsburgh podcast.

What's CITY Talking About?
Pittsburgh’s Plan For Homeless Camps
Legal advocates are concerned that the draft of the city’s new policy for removing encampments “doesn’t do enough to enshrine constitutional rights around cruel and unusual punishment” — especially as more than 100 people will be seeking alternative shelter with the Smithfield Street shelter closing on June 21. RIP Mon-Oakland Connector
A funeral procession moved through Schenley Park on Sunday, as activists and community members ceremoniously “buried” the failed Mon-Oakland Connector shuttle — a contentious development proposal dating back to 2015 that aimed to connect Oakland to Hazelwood Green with autonomous shuttles. Residents fought against it, because it ignored the needs of communities it impacted. [Pittsburgh Union Progress]
15 Pools Open This Saturday
Ammon, Highland, Jack Stack, Magee, Moore, Phillips, Ormsby, Ream, Schenley, and Westwood pools will be open every day, while Banksville, McBride, Riverview and Sue Murray pools will operate on a five-day schedule. [City of Pittsburgh]

Feds Boost Local Transportation Project
The federal government is giving Pittsburgh $150 million for the new Downtown-Uptown-Oakland bus rapid transit (BRT) line, which will have dedicated bus-only lanes, bike lanes, smart traffic lights, and tech to make boarding the bus faster and more friendly. The full project will run 7.1 miles and is estimated to cost $291 million. [U.S. Dept. of Transportation]
