What's CITY Talking About?

More Blue Recycling Bins

The city will begin the fifth and final phase of its curbside recycling bin distribution tomorrow. Residents in northern and western neighborhoods will receive 32-gallon blue curbside recycling bins as part of the city’s multi-year transition away from a bag-based to a bin-based recycling program. City Launches Affordable Housing Investment

Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey and the Urban Redevelopment Authority announced plans to issue bonds that they say will raise $25 to $40 million for affordable housing. It’s not totally clear how the money will be invested, but city officials say that the bonds will fund construction that has been delayed by supply-chain issues and rising interest rates. [TribLIVE]

Penguins Name New President

Kyle Dubas, who was recently fired as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, is joining the Pittsburgh Penguins as president of hockey operations. His goal? Help the classic trio, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang, get another shot at the Stanley Cup together while also considering the future. [Associated Press]

Can Gay and Bisexual Men Give Blood Here?

For the first time since 1985, sexually active gay and bisexual men won’t be automatically excluded from giving blood. But the timeline for those new rules is fuzzy, and while the restrictions have changed, they aren’t completely gone. Sean DeYoung, CEO of Allies for Health + Wellbeing, joined us to talk about the new FDA guidelines, plus his hopes for what could come next.

Have a great week!
