What's CITY Talking About?
Allegheny County Jail Violates Sunshine Act
The jail oversight board voted to appoint Karen Duffola, a drug court administrator and former probation officer, as the liaison to the jail. The role is intended to give the board reliable and consistent information. The vote drew opposition because the Pennsylvania Sunshine Act requires agencies to make the public aware of any official actions and provide an opportunity for public comment before a decision is made. - 🎧 Since April 2020, 18 men have died in Pittsburgh's prisons, and none of their autopsies are available to the public. Here's why this information matters, and hear about the organization fighting for this transparency. [PINJ / City Cast Pittsburgh]
Coming Soon: Downtown Youth Center
The POISE Foundation is getting a $350,000 grant from The Heinz Endowments to open a Downtown Youth Enrichment Center this June or July. The center, free to all teens, will form a youth debate team, educate on community organizing, and coordinate annual field trips to Washington, D.C. [90.5 WESA]
Meet Your City Leaders
City government is working to build trust in the community through a new program called “City in the Streets.” Department leaders, local businesses, vendors, and community partners will host “block-party-style” gatherings with food, games, and activities. The first event is this Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Woods Run Avenue and Brighton Road in Marshall-Shadeland; the city plans to hold one per month until October. [TribLIVE]

Where Is It?

Who likes to play games? Every week, I show you a close-up photo of a place in Pittsburgh, and you submit a guess of its location. Do you know where to find these cheese dudes?
There’s no fancy prize, unfortunately. But you do get personal satisfaction and a spot in my imaginary Hey Pittsburgh Hall of Fame 🏆

Practical Security Tips from Your Friendly Neighborhood ASMR Artist
ASMR is supposed to be relaxing, but for the creators behind the content, platforms like YouTube often fall well short of protecting the people who keep it so popular. Pittsburgh-based artist Lilliana Dee, aka Lily Whispers, is here to explain how she uses her day job in cybersecurity to educate fellow creators on red flags, like fetish mining. And stick with us to the end — Lily offered some very fun, very Pittsburgh bonus content you don’t want to miss.
