Happy Friday, neighbor. Need plans? I got you covered for this 70-some degree weekend ☀️

What's CITY Talking About?
Jury Selection for the Synagogue Shooting Trial
After nearly a month of questioning, a pool of 69 people have been chosen as possible jurors; 12 jurors and six alternates will be selected from that group next week. The man accused of killing 11 worshipers at a Squirrel Hill synagogue faces more than 60 federal charges. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. Testimony in the case will likely begin after Memorial Day. [90.5 WESA]
Don’t Pass a Stopped School Bus
Starting next week, drivers who pass a school bus with its stop sign out will get a warning letter. The consequences will get stricter in July, when drivers will be mailed a ticket with a $300 dollar fine. Pittsburgh Public Schools partnered with an outside company this year to put cameras on buses – at no cost – to capture license plates. The superintendent says the new program will help keep kids safe from reckless drivers. [TribLIVE]
Girls Can Officially Wrestle in PA
Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association unanimously approved girls wrestling as an official high school sport in the state this week. Now they can hold tournaments and competitions just like boys always have. It all takes effect this fall for the 2023-2024 season. [CBS]
- 🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh host Megan Harris talked to pioneering members of the Plum High School girls team to learn what they love about being on the mat and what this vote means to them. “We’ll always be remembered. Us few girls will always be known as the ones who started it,” Emma S. said.
A Familiar Face at the Mayor’s Office
Olga George is taking over as press secretary for Maria Montaño, who's now serving as Mayor Ed Gainey's communications director. She's been storytelling for our city behind the scenes at KDKA for years — now she'll be the one in front of the cameras. [TribLIVE]
