What Are Your Neighbors’ Election Concerns?
Only about 30 percent of voters are expected to turn out today, but we can get a preview of residents’ concerns and expectations for elected leaders through a 90.5 WESA and CAMPOS survey. The top three priorities were crime prevention and public safety (69%), infrastructure upkeep (54%), and housing and homelessness (40%). Republicans and Democrats mainly differ on how to address public safety and strategies for economic investment. [90.5 WESA]

Water Costs Could Rise
Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority filed for a proposed rate increase that could up your bills by nearly 60% over the next few years, citing infrastructure improvements and higher operating costs from inflation. The increases would affect about 300,000 customers. [TribLIVE]

An Overhaul of Housing Health Codes
The Allegheny County Health Department is amending its 25-year-old housing health rules and wants your feedback on its proposed revisions. You can send written comments to the board via this link, which will be compiled for a public hearing on July 6. This overhaul comes a few months after the Commonwealth Court ruled against the city’s case to regulate rental housing. [PublicSource]

Will Pennsylvania Make Girls Wrestling Official?
In 2020, the first Pennsylvania high school began offering girls wrestling. Now, the number is at least 100, and this week, the body that governs high school sports is deciding whether to make it official. We took a field trip to Plum High School to talk to girls wrestling coach Dave Miller and four of the sports’ fiercest pioneers.
