What's DC Talking About
The Soil Is OK, But What About Our Bodies?
The EPA’s latest soil sampling in the East Palestine, Ohio area shows little contamination from the train derailment in February that released toxic chemicals. But while the findings look good, residents are still worried because their own tests show chemicals like vinyl chloride in their bodies. Check out the map of the testing area near Pittsburgh. New Law Expands Cancer Screening
Early screening is key to catching and treating cancer, and a new Pennsylvania law will make that more accessible. Gov. Josh Shapiro signed legislation this week requiring insurers to cover the cost of genetic testing and supplemental screenings for people with a high chance of breast cancer. [90.5 WESA]
New Entertainment Hub Near PNC Park
The North Shore is getting a new place to eat and play with a 15,200-square-foot dining and entertainment concept. The hub will have a performance stage, pergola and outdoor tables, and a central green space to host events like watch parties, concerts, movies in the park, and yoga. It’s expected to open before the 2025 Pirates season. [NEXTpittsburgh]
Exec Candidates Speak To AAPI Community
Four Allegheny County executive candidates answered constituent questions at the Philippine Center of Pittsburgh in West Mifflin on Sunday, the day before Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The candidates promised environmental justice, expanded language service, and mental health funding to Asian communities in Allegheny County. [Pittsburgh Union Progress]

Pittsburgh Chatter

What places in Pittsburgh are frozen in time and take you back?
I’ll go first: Jimmy & Nino’s in the Strip District. Just thinking about it, I can almost smell the assortment of olives, fresh baked pepperoni roll, and my mom picking out “the good cheese.”

Behind PGH's Most Hated Parking Spot
The car parked outside of Evergreen Cafe on Penn Avenue in Point Breeze has frustrated Pittsburgh drivers for decades. Despite complaints to police and social media outrage, it has remained there like a monument. Hannah Kinney-Kobre from Pittsburgh City Paper got the man behind the dusty brown Buick to break his silence, and she’s on today’s podcast to tell us what the most hated parker in Pittsburgh has to say for himself.
Until tomorrow!
