What Pittsburgh's Talking About

Rodgers Signs Deal With Steelers

After months of uncertainty on whether he’d return for another season, the Steelers finally reached an agreement with Aaron Rodgers. The quarterback signed a one-year contract worth up to $25 million at the Steelers’ South Side facility on Monday. [🔒 Post-Gazette]

City Announces Summer Concert Series

Free music is coming back to Pittsburgh’s parks this season. Bring your lawn chair to enjoy jazz at Riverview Park or Highland Park, hear local bands at Grandview Park, or pack a picnic to bring to “Bach, Beethoven, and Brunch” in Mellon Park. See the schedule here. [City of Pittsburgh]

Former Kingfly Spirits Building Sells

Wall Ball LLC, a limited liability company, purchased the former distillery space in the Strip District for approximately $3 million. Kingfly Spirits closed in February after seven years on Smallman Street. The building was originally Civil War-era horse stables. [🔒 Business Times]

PA Fruit Crop Wiped Out by Hard Freezes

Regional farmers are facing devastating crop losses after unusually warm temperatures in April and hard freezes that destroyed fruit blooms. Simmons Farm in McMurray won’t offer pick-your-own peaches this season, and Soergel Orchards cancelled its annual Strawberry Festival. Gov. Josh Shapiro is urging the federal government to provide disaster assistance. [WESA / KDKA / WTAE]

  • Georgia to the rescue! While you might not be able to get peaches locally, you can put in an order for peaches from the Peach Truck — a traveling farm stand with multiple pickup locations around Pittsburgh.

PennDOT Shares Plan for Parkway East Closure

Part of I-376 will shut down from July 10 to Aug. 3 for the replacement of the Commercial Street Bridge. Crews plan to demolish the old bridge and “slide” a new bridge into its place. PennDOT is working to create carpool sites around major bus stops. The new span is expected to open Aug. 4. [TribLive]

painted flowers on a fence

Photo location reveal: Randyland. (Francesca Dabecco / City Cast Pittsburgh)

Find this floral fence next to Randyland in the Mexican War Streets on the North Side, a free, found-object outdoor art museum. The vibrant house and yard on Arch Street is a community landmark created by Randy Gibson. He’s often hanging out — don’t miss a chance to say hi! He has a cheerful personality, as bright as his open-air museum!

Make a day of it: Walk down to West North Avenue and check out the market and brewery inside the former Garden Theater, or head to Buena Vista Street to grab a cup from Commonplace Coffee. It’s my favorite; you might even see me there! 😉
