What Pittsburgh's Talking About

PIT Lands Millions More in Federal Funding

Pittsburgh International Airport is getting a $10.7 million grant to continue work at the new landslide terminal and surrounding area. The boost will go toward reconstructing 700,000 square feet of the existing airside terminal, completing airside terraces, redoing pavement on taxiways, and replacing two emergency generators. County Wants Feedback on Property Reassessments

Allegheny County Council is holding public meetings to hear residents’ interest in a countywide property reassessment — a move that would bring tax bills more in line with current property values. The county hasn’t done a new review in over a decade, and PA is the only state that doesn’t require regular reassessments. [WESA]

Trib Total Media Launches Investigative Newsroom

The Newsworks Lab will publish original accountability reporting focused on issues that matter to Western PA communities. It's led by award-winning journalist Andrew Conte, who’s leaving his post at Point Park University’s Center for Media Innovation. The newsroom, based on the North Shore, is funded by a $1.25 investment from Trib Total Media. [TribLive]

Joint Theater Group Announces First Show

Pittsburgh Public Theater and Pittsburgh CLO are in the process of merging their organizations and will debut their first joint production this fall at the O’Reilly Theater. Prepare For Primary Elections Next Week

Election Day is next week! (Francesca Dabecco / City Cast Pittsburgh)

Ready to do your civic duty? Allegheny County’s primary election is next Tuesday, May 19.

Make a Voting Plan

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Find your polling place here.

If you're voting at a new polling place or in PA for the first time, you may need to provide an accepted form of ID. If you are a returning voter, you don’t need an ID.

If you’re voting by mail, your application for a mail-in or absentee ballot must be received by the county election office by 5 p.m. May 12. Once you receive and complete your ballot, it must be received by election officials when polls close at 8 p.m. May 19.

Reminder: PA is one of just eight states with a closed primary system, meaning only registered Democrats and Republicans get to vote in their respective parties’ spring primaries. Independents and third-party voters can, however, vote on ballot measures.

Study Your Ballot

Use voting guides from WESA, SpotlightPA, and Public Source to learn more about candidates for governor, state Senate, state House, U.S. Congress, and more.

See exactly what’s on your ballot by entering your municipality, ward, and district into this sample ballot tool. Find your district here.

Help Your Neighbors

Elections can’t run smoothly without volunteers at each polling place. Help set up, check in voters, and assist with equipment by applying to be a poll worker. Extra perk: You can make $150-$175 for your day of work.
